This category recognizes youth who have made a positive impact in their school community through sports, the arts, environmental action or student-led initiatives. This award honors creativity, commitment and school minded action that uplifts others and leads by example.
* must have occurred in the school environment within the last 18 months
Key areas-
- Sports – team captain, student-athlete mentor
- Arts – theater, music, visual arts, student media, creative activism
- Environment – sustainability projects, green teams awareness campaigns
- General student leadership – student council, peer mentoring, anti-bullying work, clubs
Candidates will be scored using the following criteria:
- Took a lead role in organizing or driving a school project, event or group activity. Inspired or mobilized others
- Demonstrated meaningful and measurable impact – improved school culture, promoted a cause or solved a problem
- Used creative problem solving, artistic expression or unique methods to address a school need or opportunity
- Worked well with others, promoted team spirit and brought students together
- Sustained effort over time, showed responsibility, follow-through and reliability
- Provides ongoing leadership, direction, encouragement and support
